Sleep disorders

Home Sleep disorders
If you’re like fifty percent of all adults, you may not be sleeping well or getting enough sleep. Sleep affects everything we do and is enormously important for our overall health.

Disturbed sleep patterns will result in fatigue, irritability and diminished concentration and can reduce the quality of your work and family life.

Recent research confirmed that acupuncture, moxibustion and personally formulated Chinese Herbal Medicines have a significant positive effect on patient’s insomnia and sleep patterns. Many of my clients report that they have had the best rest in years following a treatment. This is in part because they are often anxious or stressed. Acupuncture, combined with the calming environment at Essential Acupuncture Clinic, can relax a patient and counter the often underlying` tensions people experience as a result of their busy lives. An additional benefit of acupuncture is relief from chronic pain, which is a common contributor to sleeplessness.

Acupuncture for Sleep disorders – The evidence

A 2004 study found that acupuncture increased night-time melatonin production and total sleep time. Patients in the trial who received acupuncture also fell asleep faster, were less disturbed at night, and were less stressed. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14990755

The results of a 2009 clinical trial revealed that compared with conventional medications, acupuncture was significantly better for improving sleep quality and duration. To see the  results, visit http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3156618/

Acupuncture is a drug free treatment modality. Throw away the dangerous sleeping pills and book an appointment now.

During your initial consultation Julie will evaluate the cause of the sleeping disorder before an appropriate treatment plan is proposed. The frequency and length of appointments depends on how long the disorder has been present and how quickly you respond to treatment.

In addition to acupuncture, here are some common solutions to sleeping disorders:

o Stick to a sleeping schedule
o Avoid alcohol and nicotine near bedtime
o Exercise daily and avoid heavy meals in the evening
o Keep the bedroom cool, dark and well ventilated
o Do not take a laptop or any work to bed
o Develop the association of the bedroom and sleep
