Tai Chi

Home Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life.’ – Harvard Medical School

Tai Chi is a major part of the traditional Chinese sport of Wu Shu also known as Kung Fu. Like traditional Chinese medicine, is based on the Qi (the invisible energy flow through meridians and collaterals) and Yingyang theory.

You may be fascinated about Kung Fu stars like Jackie Chan, Jet Lee and of course Bruce Lee. I couldn`t help wondering if I would become a Kung Fu star when I started Tai Chi training in 2001? Well, it’s good to have a dream but the chance is quite low. For those who have international recognition in this art form or the monks in Shaolin temple who can lift their whole body by their thumbs, they have undergone years of intensive and torturous training. However, Tai Chi is easier to learn and practice.

The movements are slow, soft and are not harsh on one’s joints.

Tai Chi

Nevertheless, it is not easy to learn the classic movements.

It took me two university semesters to learn the twenty-four sets of Yang’s style Tai Chi. This type of Tai chi is also the most popular in China and you may notice many aged people practice it as their morning exercise routine. Unlike the ancient Kung Fu (Chinese Martial Arts) ancestor, any type of Tai chi nowadays is simplified sets of its original movements. It is more focused on gentle movements instead of defense or fighting in nature.

The benefits of practicing Tai chi had been recognized by many world top medical centers and organizations such as Harvard medical school and WHO. Tai chi not only improves one’s balance, strengthen one’s body but also enhance one’s internal mindset.

There are many Tai chi classes in Adelaide, please feel free to contact me if you are interested in Tai chi classes.
